Mercy A. Chimtawi

Mercy Chimtawi is a Senior Associate to the group and an Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania and subordinate courts thereto except primary courts and was admitted as an Advocate in Tanzania in 2009.  She is also a member of the Tanzania Women Lawyers Association and the East Africa Law Society and a member of the African Arbitration Association. Before joining the firm Mercy worked with Bollore Africa Logistics Tanzania as the Legal and Insurance Manager which is a multinational logistics company and her work with the company was majorly focused on managing all the group of company’s legal activities and insurance portfolio and related insurance claims, company secretarial activities, employment, corporate and commercial matters as well as related litigation, she also supervised outside counsel.  Before joining Bollore, she worked with government-owned parastatal Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) as a Legal Officer – Commercial and Contracts, and her core activities amongst others were safeguarding the corporation’s interests through a process of drafting and reviewing all company contract agreements and leases and necessary litigation of any related disputes, she also undertook statutory compliance matters through review of legislations, policies, and regulations affecting the company.  Mercy concentrates her practice on litigation, regulatory compliance matters, commercial and corporate matters, insurance, and labor and employment matters and comes with specific expertise in drafting complex commercial contracts with attention to detail. She also provides legal aid services on a pro bono basis to women and children who lack the financial ability to hire counsel.
